How do I download my Flipwise data for tax time?
This is not tax advice. We strongly recommend that you consult with a professional tax advisor when preparing your tax return.
You can easily export data stored in Flipwise from any of the inventory index screens. Look for an “Export” button in the top right hand corner of the screen. Flipwise will export exactly what is shown in whatever index view you were on when you clicked Export, along with other relevant but not visible-on-the-web data like eBay item ID, order ID, and so on. The export will also respect any search terms, filters, and sorting options defined. So if you search for “Disney” and then sort by Net Return and hit export, for example, you will get a CSV with only results matching “Disney” and the data will be sorted by Net Return. Or if you filter by Sold date to be "Last year" you will get a CSV with all sales from last year.
This export will include all acquisition data input by you manually, including your cost of goods sold (COGS). For sold products, Flipwise will also include in the export all data synced from your eBay transactions, such as gross income, as well as individual order details like sale price and fees paid. The export will include shipping label costs only when Flipwise was able to import those costs automatically or if you entered the costs manually. There are a few scenarios where Flipwise cannot manually import your shipping label costs due to eBay API limitations which you can read about here. In those cases, we cannot import your shipping label costs and thus they will not be included in this data export unless you previously input them manually.
To ensure totality and accuracy, we recommend you also export your Orders, Refunds, and Expense reports from eBay directly from their My eBay Payments Reports screen. From this screen you can select “Last year” from the time period dropdown and download a report for your orders, refunds, and expenses. When looking at these reports, you may notice that eBay reports a higher number for your Gross Income than what Flipwise reports. This is because eBay includes refunds paid out to buyers for returned or canceled orders in your Gross Income when reporting, but Flipwise does not. You can read more about this here.
Additionally, eBay prepares a 1099 specific report that you may wish to use instead of or in addition to their Orders, Refunds, and Expense reports mentioned above. This report becomes available when eBay sends out its 1099-K forms, which is typically in the last week of January. You can read more about how eBay prepares its 1099s for you by clicking here.
Finally, it is important to remember that Flipwise currently only integrates with eBay. If you are selling items on other platforms, you will need to seek out data from each of those platforms directly.
