Why does eBay report a higher amount for refunds than Flipwise?

Your Flipwise Income Statement and Tax Report both include a line item for Order Refunds. This amount represents the total money returned to buyers and deducted from your balance for all refunds, regardless of whether an item was physically returned. It also includes partial refunds where no return was opened.

You may notice that this number may not match the total shown in eBay’s Refund report under Financial Overview in Seller Hub.

The primary reason for this discrepancy is that eBay’s Refund report includes refunds related to order cancellations, while Flipwise does not. Cancelled orders are excluded because they were never included as taxable revenue on eBay’s Tax Report in the first place. Since eBay’s Tax Report excludes both revenue and refunds from cancelled orders, Flipwise follows the same approach to ensure your reporting stays aligned with eBay’s tax reporting.

As a result, eBay’s Refund report will often show a higher total refund amount than what appears on your Flipwise Income Statement and Tax Report—but this does not mean refunds are being underreported or missed for tax purposes.
