Can I use keyboard shortcuts when entering in data?

While Flipwise imports all of your sales data automatically, there are a few data points you will need to add manually in order to get the most value out of the application. We call this acquisition data, and it includes an item’s cost, where it was purchased from, the purchase date, and where in your inventory it is stored.

Data entry in Flipwise was built to mimic the data entry behaviors of a spreadsheet. Clicking (or tapping on your phone) into any editable value in Flipwise will allow you to edit it. There are a few ways you can save your entry:

  1. Click <enter> on your keyboard
  2. Click <tab> on your keyboard (which will also take you to the next row)
  3. Click your mouse anywhere outside of the row currently being edited

Certain values, like storage location and purchased from, use stored options that you can create and select via a dropdown. If you are entering one of these values for the first time, you will need to add it to the database first. To select an existing value, simply begin to type the first few letters and you will see the saved values appear in the dropdown. You can select each with your mouse, or use the down arrow on your keyboard to select.

Keyboard shortcuts

It’s possible to input data in Flipwise using only the keyboard. There are several keyboard shortcuts that allow you to do this.

  • <Enter> will enable editing mode on the selected row
  • <Enter> will save a value and close editing mode
  • <Tab> will take you to the next editable field while keeping editing mode open
  • <Shift-tab> will move to the previous editable field while keeping editing mode open
  • <Arrow> keys will move you up and down the dropdown lists and through the calendar for selecting purchase date
  • <j> will move down a row
  • <k> will move up a row
  • <Esc> will exit editing mode without saving
