Why does Flipwise not ingest buyer-paid sales tax on eBay?

Flipwise intentionally excludes buyer-paid sales tax from your revenue and expense data because it isn’t actually your money.

When a buyer pays sales tax on eBay, that amount is collected and remitted directly by eBay to the appropriate state or local tax authority. You never receive those funds, and you're not responsible for paying them—eBay handles it on your behalf.

eBay also does not include buyer-paid sales tax in the gross sales number reported on the 1099 it sends you each year. Flipwise aligns with this standard so that your data stays consistent and accurate for tax time.

Including sales tax in your Flipwise data would artificially inflate your gross revenue and distort key financial metrics like profit, net revenue per item, and tax liability. By omitting it, Flipwise gives you a more realistic view of your actual business performance.

You may still see a sales tax line item in your eBay transaction details or payout reports—that’s normal. Just remember: Flipwise only tracks the money that actually hits your account.
