Can I mark a product in my inventory as damaged or discarded?
If a product in your inventory is damaged or otherwise discarded and must be pulled from inventory, you can mark that product as "discarded" which will pull it from your list of active products and place it in a special list of "Discarded" products.
This is helpful when you have items in your inventory that were damaged and you pull them from the shelves to discard them yet still want to retain the associated costs for tax purposes later.
To mark a product as discarded, find the action menu on the product detail page and select "Mark as discarded."
Not all products can be marked as discarded:
- A product with an active eBay listing must first have that listing ended before it can be marked as discarded.
- A sold product can only be marked as discarded if the sale was returned or canceled. A sold product with a non-cancelled and non-returned order cannot be marked as discarded, because presumably it is no longer in your possession as it has been sold to a buyer.
- A multi-quantity product can only be marked as discarded if it has no orders or if all of its orders are cancelled or returned.
Additionally, if a buyer initiates a return and you decide to issue a refund—either partial or full—without requiring the item to be sent back, Flipwise allows you to mark the order as "not returned" which considers it discarded.
How to mark a product as discarded that was never listed on eBay
If you have an item in your inventory that was never listed on eBay, but needs to be marked as discarded, you can add that item to your Unlisted inventory, then mark it as donated using the instructions above. Read more: How to add your unlisted inventory to Flipwise.
Important: Flipwise will retain your items in its inventory forever, even if you delete the listing from eBay. The only time an item will be deleted from your Flipwise inventory is if you explicitly choose to delete it. However, Flipwise does not act as a back up of your listings.
