Can I use Flipwise with Nifty or other cross-listing tools?

Why Flipwise Doesn't Cross-List

There are many other tools out there that offer cross-listing services, and many users operate them along-side Flipwise. If you would like to do the same, there are a few things you should consider, and there may be some extra maintenance required of your inventory.

Relisting

The primary conflict you will experience when running both Flipwise and a cross-listing platform involves the automatic ending and relisting of items. If you are not interested in using automatic relisting on either platform, then there should be little to no issues running both tools.

Relisting using Flipwise will prevent the issue where you create duplicate items and lose the metadata you are storing with each item. However, it does in turn create some issues on the cross-listing platform. These are manageable, but require extra consideration and maintenance. Below is our advice based on limited testing and feedback from users.

First, the good news:

• Automatically ending a listing using Flipwise will not end the listing on other platforms. Even those services that have "Auto-Delist" only do so when an item sells, not when it ends.
• Automatically relisting an item Flipwise will not automatically cross-list a duplicate to other platforms. In all our testing, the cross listing process has to be done proactively with individual items. As long as you are not purposely cross-listing the relists, you will not have duplicates on your other platforms.

This means that the act of ending and relisting an item in Flipwise should not, in itself, cause any issues on the cross-listing platform. However, following are the two changes that may be required in your cross-listing workflow if you decide to automatically end and relist items:

Change 1: Avoid Cross-Listing Relisted Items

As mentioned previously, relisting an item does not automatically cross list it. However, it will create a duplicate within your "Inventory" in the cross-listing platform. Cross-Listing platforms do not process the connection that eBay makes between an ended and relisted item like we do at Flipwise, so it will just consider the relist as brand new item.

This means you should not cross-list every new item that shows up in your inventory. Doing so will create duplicates on your other platforms. You have to be specific about only cross-listing brand new items. Here's an example scenario:

1. Bob lists 3 new action figures on eBay, which we'll call A1, B1, and C1.
2. He cross-lists these items to Mercari and Poshmark.
3. After one month, the items have not sold, and he has Flipwise set up to automatically end and relist them. A1, B1, and C1 are now ended on eBay, and there are three new listings: A2, B2, and C2. These are the same items; they are just new listings of those items on eBay.
4. A1, B1, and C1 still exist as active listings on Mercari and Poshmark
5. Bob lists 2 more new Action Figures on eBay: D1 and E1.
6. When Bob logs into his Cross-Listing platform, he sees 5 new listings that he could cross-list: A2, B2, C2, D1, and E1.
7. It is important that Bob only cross-lists D1 and E1. If he cross-listed everything, he would end up with 3 duplicates on Mercari and Poshmark.

Change 2: Manual Delisting

Many cross-listing platforms offer an "auto-delist" feature, where if an item sells on one platform, it will automatically end that listing on the other platforms where it has been cross-listed. When you relist an item using Flipwise, the connection to the listings on other platforms breaks, so if the item sells in one place, you will have to manually delist the item elsewhere. Specifically:

• If an item has been relisted and sells on eBay, you will need to manually delist it from all non-eBay marketplaces.
• If an item has been relisted and sells on a non-eBay marketplace, you will need to manually delist it on eBay.

Here's another example scenario:

1. Sue lists 5 pairs of jeans on eBay: A1, B1, C1, D1, and E1.
2. She cross-lists these items to Mercari and Poshmark and has "auto-delist" turned on in her cross-listing platform
3. After 1 week, listing A1 sells on eBay. It has not been relisted yet, so it is automatically delisted on Mercari and Poshmark. No problem.
4. After 2 weeks, listing B1 sells on Poshmark. It is automatically delisted from Mercari and eBay, without issue.
5. After 1 month, Flipwise ends and relists the unsold items, creating 3 new listings: C2, D2, and E2.
6. A week later, C2 sells on eBay. Sue's cross-listing platform did not connect this listing to C1, so she needs to go and manually delist C1 from Mercari and Poshmark.
7. A week after that, D1 sells on Mercari. The cross-listing platform is able to auto-delist D1 on Poshmark, but not on eBay. Sue needs to go to eBay and manually delist D2.

Again, this is only a consideration if you are using the auto-delist feature. If you are not, then you will be manually delisting after every sale anyway.

If you are diligent with these considerations, you can successfully use Flipwise alongside a cross-listing tool. Note that we did not test every tool available, so your experience may vary.
