How do I fill in missing data in bulk?
Flipwise has specific reports for all of your listings that are "Missing Data", whether Active or Sold. This means that one or more of the following fields is blank:
- Purchase Location
- Purchase Price
- Storage Location (Active Listings only)
- Shipping Price (Sold Listings only, if not automatically added)
When you first start using Flipwise, you may have a large amount of entries with missing data, which will seem like a daunting task. We can make this process a little easier through an exporting and importing process. Here's what we recommend doing:
Step 1: Export your Missing Data
Whenever you are looking at a list of your items in Flipwise, there will be an "Export" button at the top right of your screen:

This will export all listings in the current view that you are looking at, including any filtering or sorting that you have done. This export will be sent to your email as a link to a CSV file. Download it to your computer.
Step 2: Open and Edit your CSV
A CSV file (Comma-Separated Values) is just a raw text file with all of your data, line by line, with fields separated by commas. While you can edit this file directly, the easiest way to view and edit the data is through a spreadsheet application. The two most common are Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets:
Microsoft Excel
If you have Excel installed on your computer already, then you should be able to just double-click the CSV file and it will open automatically, formatting all of the data into rows and columns:

There are going to be many extra columns that are not important for this process, and you can simply ignore them. The important columns are for the missing data, like "Storage Location", "Cost", and "Purchased at". Now you have an easy way to fill in this data in bulk.
NOTE: The other important field is the "eBay Item ID", which is used when the data is imported back into Flipwise. Unfortunately, Excel interprets this fields as a long number and puts it in scientific notation. If you then save the data to a CSV file, it will truncate and lose part of this ID. The solution is to either: (1) save the file as an Excel Workbook (.xlsx), or (2) right click the column, select "Format Cells", then "Number", then set 0 decimal places, and click "OK".
Google Sheets
For a free online alternative to process CSV files, Google Sheets is a great option. First, create a New Spreadsheet. Then select "File->Import", then "Upload". Drag in or browse to your CSV file. It should look then like this:

Keep everything as the default, except uncheck "Convert text to...". Then click Import Data, and the file will be shown with rows and columns, again for you to edit quickly or in bulk.
Step 3: Save and Send to be Imported
Once you have filled the missing data you would like to, you'll need to save the file so it can be sent back to us for import. Note that you don't have to fill in everything, and you can split it into multiple files if you would like.
Microsoft Excel
Click File, then "Save As". The default will be .csv, but you can also change this to "Excel Workbook (.xlsx)" if you want to ensure your eBay Item ID stays intact. Then click "Save" and note the location of the file.
Google Sheets
Click "File", then "Download", then "Comma separated values (.csv)". Choose a location for your file to download.
Once you have saved your file, simply email it to support@flipwise.app as an attachment and we'll import the data very shortly.
Coming soon: The ability to bulk edit your data in Flipwise. While the export/import process will always be an option, for smaller groups of changes, you will soon be able to edit things in bulk directly within Flipwise.
